1. Study: Breast milk may not be best
Professor Sven Carlsen agreed breastfed babies were slightly healthier but he said their health had nothing to do with milk they received. Professor Carlsen said the difference was because these babies had better conditions in the womb. Mr Carlsen argues that what really affects the health of a growing infant is the hormone balance in the womb before birth. He suggests that this, in turn, influences a womans ability to breastfeed, resulting in a misleading association between breastfeeding and child health.

“consumption of a strict raw food diet lowers plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations, but also lowers serum HDL cholesterol and increases total homocysteine concentrations due to vitamin B-12 deficiency.
WHAT DOES FRED THINK?

In conclusion, the Buddhist nuns who consumed a lacto-vegetarian diet had mildly elevated fasting plasma homocysteine levels presumably due to lower levels of plasma vitamin B-12.

Conclusions— Although homocysteine predicted future coronary events in AFCAPS/TexCAPS, we found little evidence that homocysteine evaluation provided an improved method to target statin therapy among those with low-to-normal LDL

Background: Little is known regarding the health effects of a raw food (RF) vegetarian diet.
Conclusion A Raw food vegetarian diet is associated with low bone mass at clinically important skeletal regions but is without evidence of increased bone turnover or impaired vitamin D status.

Background: The association between vegetarian diets and bone mineral density (BMD) is controversial because of conflicting findings from previous studies
Conclusion: The results suggest that vegetarian diets, particularly vegan diets, are associated with lower BMD, but the magnitude of the association is clinically insignificant.
